Big Little Things

A few weeks ago, 12 women from EBC gathered for an evening of making valentines to give away to those who needed encouragement.  It was a quiet event, everyone focused on the project at hand.  As usual, the results were amazing.  Beautiful valentines, funky valentines, funny valentines, all with sentiments pointing to Jesus.  I read inscriptions like, “You are God’s favorite valentine,” “Somebody loves you. Guess who? Jesus!”  “Jesus says, Be mine!” and my all-time favorite “Jesus Loves you whether you like it or not!”

Fifteen of the valentines went to EBC shut ins and those who needed a lift.  Jill Anderson took forty to the WHO shelter, plus a poster Aleyana Cadorniga made.  Bethany Breneman and I dropped a box of 100 off at the main counter at Open House Ministries.  Then we took the rest to Mountain Ministries, a Christian rehab facility at Kelso.

And, oh my, were we blessed!  We got to pass them out at the women’s and children’s party.  The women were very enthusiastic about getting valentines!  Comments like “This is my favorite verse!” “This is so beautiful!”  “I’ll hang this by my bed!” “Why would women who don’t know us make these for us?” “Can my husband get one too?” “It’s been years since I got a valentine!”  And of course, I got a lot of hugs.  I wish I could pass them around to all who helped make the valentines.

The men at the men’s facility got the less frilly valentines which they use as Bible bookmarks or tack to the wall by their bunks.

I ended up with one valentine left over.  What to do with it?  I left it in the women’s restroom at Starbucks on the way home.  It read “Somebody loves you” and on the back side “Jesus!” with a scripture verse. I will pray for whoever finds it.

So while this seemed like a small event,  it had some very positive results.  Always remember, little things can count big in a person’s life, like just knowing someone cares.  Thank you, valentine makers!

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good.  At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”  Galatians 6:9
