Christmas Letters and the Annual Meeting
Dear EBC family,
Happy New Year! Like most of you, we have been packing up Christmas decorations and stowing the over-full totes back in the attic. But there is one piece of décor we leave up well into the new year: our Christmas card door. As the beautiful cards and family photos roll in throughout December, we tape them to our living room closet door. By Christmas, the door is full and the result is a wonderful, crazy, chaotic heartwarming collage. I love looking at this door!
Now, very few of our guests have much interest in this door. They might enjoy the idea of it and even appreciate the overall beauty of the arrangement, but they have no interest in spending time looking at all the individual cards and pictures. They are not rude, they simply have no connection to these people. They have no reason to gaze at a bunch of nameless faces, and zero interest in reading the family newsletters that accompanied many of these cards. But Kristin and I treasure these cards and letters because they are our family.
If Evergreen Bible Church (the people, not the place) is your family, then the Annual Meeting this Sunday at 6pm will be of great interest to you. The meeting will be a gathering of the family God has made you part of. You can expect to sing with your family, hear from your pastors, vote on new leaders, approve missionary support, hear an update on our finances, and pray together as a family.
To anyone else, even a devout believer, there would be no reason to make this meeting a priority. They don’t know us. But if you are a member or regular attender at EBC, your family is having the primary meeting of the year this coming Sunday evening. I look forward to seeing you there.
