Family Matters Summit
Following Jesus is both glorious and difficult. I believe one of the most difficult aspects is how to be salt and light in our community in the most God-pleasing way possible (Mt. 5:13-16). It is difficult to know how to speak clear truth with genuine grace. It is difficult to maintain steady hope in our sovereign God while also having an abiding concern over societal decay. It is difficult to avoid the opposite errors of ignoring the pressing problems of our world or obsessing over them. This is simply a challenging area and I am constantly working to be more on target.
If this resonates with you then I would invite you to join me in attending a meeting I just heard about. The Family Matters Summit is being led by a number of local Christian leaders who devote significant attention to being salt and light for Christ. I know several of them personally and have deep respect for the way they strive to serve God well. Here are the details.
- When: Thursday, December 19 at 7:00pm. The event will last for one hour.
- Where: Bethesda Church — New Location: 2533 NE Andresen Rd. Vancouver, WA 98661. Next to Vancouver Tire & Auto and behind Miller Paint Company near Living Hope.
- What: Reports from local Christian leaders with current information on important issues such as Comprehensive Sex Education and Gender Identity in schools, a new effort known as ‘Porn Literacy’ and Drag Queen Story Hour at the Vancouver Library.
- Who: Dennis Fuqua—International Renewal Ministries, Director
Vicki Kraft—Concerned citizen, serving as a Representative in Olympia.
Heidi St. John—Author, Speaker and Founder of Firmly Planted Homeschool Resource Center
Jennifer Heine-Withee—Parents’ Rights in Education, SW WA Leader
Normally, I would be attending our prayer meeting on Thursday evenings, but I plan to attend this meeting with the same attitude. I am hopeful that all of us who gather will be equipped to love our community well and to reflect the truth and grace of Jesus in all we do.
