Last night we continued our journey of looking at the Attributes of God together. Thus far, we’ve looked at God’s: Infinitude, Goodness, Justice, Mercy, and Grace. Last night, we dove into Psalm 139 and pulled out all the things that David wrote about God’s Omnipotence (v.13-22), Omnipresence (v.7-12), and Omniscience (v.1-6). We laughed at the fact that we have to make up silly words in order to describe God. In essence – David says that God is All-Knowing, All-Places, and All-Powerful.
Now, those are really big concepts about who God is. But the beautiful news is that God relates to us personally with His omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience. We saw from David that, in His knowledge, God knows US – so we have nothing to hide from Him. We should be open books to Him. We saw that, although He is present in every place, and every time, He is personally present with US – not watching from a distant monitor, but actually present. When we’re lost or alone or afraid – just like the disciples were when Jesus left them – we can preach to ourselves that God is near! And finally, David states that God controls our steps – not in a robotic sense – but in the sense that He has a good and beautiful plan for our lives. This truth gives us hope and purpose!
It was was a good night of looking at the Scriptures together. I would challenge you to ask your students to define the words: Omnipotence, Omnipresence, and Omniscience and see what they took away from last night.
APOLOGETIC SPOTLIGHT
Titus Prevatt, one of our students, taught the 5-minute Apologetic Spotlight last night. He taught us that as Christians, we don’t believe in/bow down to the Pope because – as Matthew 23:9 states – “… do not call anyone on earth your father, for one is your father, He who is in heaven.” It was awesome to have a student do the research on this, and to inform us on how the Christian faith differs from Catholic practices.
You can find all the apologetic spotlights here.
YOUTH CON 2022 INFO
In the PNW – there are very few youth conferences that are really Scripture fed and Spirit led. That’s why Noah Soistmann, youth pastor of Northwest Gospel Church, came up with the idea to get like minded youth groups together in the Vancouver/Portland area to have a weekend of encouraging teaching, worship, and fellowship. The vision is to get students in one place from all over the city to sit under the teaching of the Scriptures for a weekend, and to connect with one another over the one hope that we share in the Gospel.
This is not an overnight event, but rather a multi day conference for students to attend with main plenary sessions, practical breakout sessions, times of musical worship, food, fun, and fellowship. In addition to all of the fun things like laser tag, mini golf, big inflatables and an escape room, the students will have opportunities to connect with their local church small groups to reflect on content together.
Dates: Feb. 18th – Sunday Feb. 20th
Cost: $100 (Scholarships are available – we don’t want finances to be an obstacle for any of the students! Please contact myself or Matt for more details)
