Currently, we are watching The Chosen which is a live action show based on the gospels. The goal in watching this series is to help the students to connect the dots between what they read in the scriptures to real life, and real characters.
Last week, we ended up watching episode two which continues to lay out the backstories of Mary Magdalene, Simon Peter, Andrew, Matthew, and Nicodemus. I had mistake the order of the series, and accidentally sent you all a synopsis of what we’ll be watching this week in last weeks update. THIS week the episode is based on Matthew 19:14 when Jesus says, “Let the little children come to me.” Tomorrow night’s episode is fantastic, in that it gives us some detail about Jesus as a person, and what His life may have been like before He started His ministry with the disciples.
Of course, we have to keep in mind that this is not scripture. But when we watch these episodes with the purpose of asking God to help us to see Him more clearly and in new and fresh ways, I think it’s very helpful! Looking forward to tomorrow night with the students!
IF YOU’D LIKE TO FOLLOW ALONG – You can download THE CHOSEN APP to your smartphone where you can watch the series as well. Perhaps it could be a way that you spend the time that your student is at youth group, and it would provide you with a good talking point to reference with them. The app is completely free, and while it suggests donations for watching the films, their goal is to get the films out to as many people as possible. You can view a little preview of the series here.
With you and for you in Christ.
