Youth group in the summer usually looks a bit more casual as we try to provide space for our youth staff to have the option to take sometime to rest. This gave us a little more time this week to play games and hang out while also jumping into our study on the Psalms. We looked at Psalm 1-2 and discussed the question of what it means to live a “blessed” or “happy” life. We compared a list of things our world tells us will lead to a blessed life to what Psalms 1 describes is a life of blessing. It explains that the person who does not walk in opposition to God but finds delight and meditates on God’s Word will live a life that is flourishing and secure.
The final 2 verses in Psalm 1 explain that those who walk in opposition to Christ will not be able to stand before the Lord and will perish. This should raise concern because we all have sinned and are incapable to perfectly live according to God’s law. This led us into Psalm 2 where the psalmist finds hope in the coming Messiah in the line of David who we know is Jesus! Psalm 2 ends with the statement “Blessed are all who take refuge in Him” when speaking of Christ. We learned that a “blessed” and “happy” life comes from finding deliverance in Jesus Christ and seeking to know Him in His Word.
