Power Outage Postponed
Dear EBC Family,
To borrow from Mark Twain, “The report of our imminent power outage was greatly exaggerated.” On Thanksgiving weekend, I announced that the electrical power to our facility would be out for an entire week, starting December 16. The reason was that our whole power service must be changed out to accommodate our Phase II addition. But a week later (last weekend) Pastor Ryan announced that this planned power outage has been postponed. I apologize for the mixed messages, and I’d like to provide a bit of explanation.
Logistics: Our electrical contractors determined months ago that we would need a whole new power service and they ordered the necessary hardware. Many of the critical components were not readily available and so we were unable to do this in August as we had hoped. The gear finally arrived last month and our contractors made the necessary arrangements to do the changeover in the middle of December. So why did we pull the plug on it?
Wisdom: Our general contractor is a very experienced and wise. He told us last week that he was lying awake in the night, thinking about our scheduled power outage in light of the temperatures which were dropping below freezing every night. He became concerned about the possibility of a freeze breaking something in our fire system which would result in massive water damage. He did not believe this was a wise risk to take, so he recommended that we postpone until spring. We are grateful for his wisdom!
Schedule: The obvious question is, “Are church activities canceled for next week or not?” Awana is still canceled for Tuesday, December 17, but Youth Group is ON for December 18 and Prayer Gathering is ON for December 19. For all other activities, please ask your ministry leader.
Flexibility: This unusual situation has ultimately been an exercise in flexibility for us as a church. It is good for us to be able to cheerfully adjust to changing circumstances, and I consider this a bit of practice for whatever situations we may come our way. So thank you for your patience as we walk this journey together.
