Read Scripture With Me
I am one of the old cranks who has a strong suspicion that our heavy dependence on digital devices has many negative side effects we are largely unaware of. But unlike lead in paint and asbestos in ceiling tiles, I think we’re unlikely to ever get rid of our devices. At best I think we’ll do like we do with sugar and saturated fat: try to limit the damage.
To that end, I invite you to join me in putting our phones to great use with the Read Scripture App from the people at The Bible Project. This is a great tool for reading through the Bible in a year. There are countless resources available, both digital as well as hard copy, aimed at the same purpose. Here are a few of the reasons Kristin and I are using this app to read through the Bible in 2018.
- Daily Portions: The app provides 365 daily readings that will take you through the Bible in a year. Some of the books are ordered differently to make more sense in the flow of Biblical history and the Psalms are sprinkled throughout the year.
- Helpful Videos: The brief, animated videos the Bible Project is famous for are made available in the most helpful spots, such as the beginning of a new Bible book. This helps you get the most out of your reading.
- Excellent Translation: This app uses the ESV translation, which is one of the best English translations available, combining accuracy and readability.
- Total Availability: I always have my phone. Therefore, I always have my Bible with me and have every opportunity to spend time with God in his Word. Whatever approach you use, I hope you will join me in the presence of God this year.

P.S. The goal of Read Scripture is that everyone would read the Bible for themselves and discover the truth and beauty of God’s Word. Watch a short, 3-minute video here which gives a great introduction to and overview of the Read Scripture App Bible reading plan.
