Mission Trip Preview:
EBC is planning on sending another short-term mission team up to Rock Nest Ranch Bible Camp in BC Canada. Rock Nest Ranch is a Christian Bible camp that has served First Nation community families since the 70s and is often a first form of contact to introducing these individuals to the gospel. The team sent from EBC this summer will help with one of Rock Nest’s largest camps of the year consisting of kids between the ages of 9-12. Our team will be ready to assist the camp in any ways that would be most valuable to them. This may include being cabin and junior counselors, working on the campgrounds, helping in the kitchen, cleaning the facilities, playing games with kids, participating in regular camp activities, and whatever else we will be asked to do. Depending on the size of our team, there is also a chance we will be a part of ministry off site. Regardless of the work our team will be doing, our goal is to support the camp workers during a very busy week and to show and share the love of Jesus with the kids and families attending.
Group 1: Youth Mission Trip
Dates: The trip will be July 11-23. This will include 7 full days at Rock Nest Ranch and 1 full day of debriefing after leaving the camp.
Spots Available: After speaking with the RNR staff and gaging the number of people interested in joining the youth trip, we have decided to limit the number of young adult spots to 5. We believe this will be best to help meet the needs at Rock Nest and for team dynamics as we travel and serve.
Overview: The young adults who wish to participate in the youth trip will be invited to not only serve at Rock Nest but to also come alongside and disciple our high school students.
Pros & Cons: Members of the youth team will be able to enter into the joys and patience-growing moments of traveling with a larger team of people. They will be able to enter into a larger team experience and more defined structure for how the trip is planned.
Group 2: Possible 2nd Young Adult Group
Dates: The maximum trip dates will be July 17-29. This will include 7 full days at Rock Nest Ranch and 1 bonus travel day when returning. This estimates 2 full travel days before and after camp. Flying would be an option and would decrease travel by 1 full day. The camp dates for the Junior 2 camp are the 20th-26th.
Overview: This trip is an option for young adults wanting to serve at Rock Nest who may not be ready to commit to a full youth mission trip. Jacob A. will still be the point person in organizing travel plans, funds for the trip, and communication with the camp. Ryan D. will be the point person once you arrive to camp and serve at Rock Nest throughout the week. You will still participate in some team meetings, fundraising, and day of overlap with the other team at Rock Nest, but you will be able to travel in a smaller group a week later.
Pros & Cons: There is more flexibility for how the team members can use their time before and after serving at Rock Nest. Suggestions will be given to the team for the route, camping, and food options, but the final decision will be given to the young adults for that time. The downside is there will be less of a “team experience” and leadership offered for the travel days and debrief. This will also be a huge benefit to Rock Nest as they are in need of more volunteers for their Junior 2 camp.
Deadlines:
- The application deadline to be a member of this mission trip is March 16.
- Payments for the trip will be due July 1.
Cost breakdown:
The total cost for the trip is $500 per adult.
- A $50 deposit is due after an individual’s application is accepted. The deposit will go toward the total amount for the trip.
- This money will cover all trip expenses including travel, lodging, food, ministry needs, and our team debrief.
Who should go on this trip:
We are looking for young adults who:
- Love Jesus and love others!
- Have a servants heart and are willing to serve anywhere assigned
- Want to have fun with students
- Want to be pushed outside their comfort zone
- Can receive both encouragement and confrontation
- Want to grow personally and spiritually
- Want to have fun!
Why you should consider going:
- This is a great opportunity for spiritual growth. Like many things in life, if you want to see growth, you must give time and effort.
- There are real needs you can help meet. Rock Nest Ranch has roles that need to be filled and many of the kids and families attending the camp are coming from a place of a lot of hurt and pain.
- You will get to see God working in a different cultural context. This is a great opportunity to see how God uses believers all over the world to serve Him.
- We are going to have a lot of fun! Some of my favorite memories have come from focused time serving the Lord with close friends. While we always need to be ready for challenges in short-term missions, you can count on us having a lot of fun with the work we are doing.
- Pray about it! What matters most is following the Lord wherever He wants you to be. So, if you have any form of interest, you should ask God if this is how He wants you to spend a couple of weeks in your summer.
Some questions you might be asking yourself:
Where will I be sleeping?
While at Rock Nest, we will be staying in some traditional style camp cabins with your own sleeping bag, pillow, etc. On our way to the camp and back we will be be doing some good old-fashion camping at designated campsites along the way.
How will we get there?
We will be taking the 17+ hour drive to the camp divided in just over 2 days. There is also an option to fl y which would come with an additional cost.
Will there be pre-trip Meetings?
Yes, we will meet 3 times as a team before the trip (May 9, June 13 and July 6, all from 6-8pm).
What will our debrief day look like?
On our way back from the camp, we will be spending an additional full day somewhere nice in the mountains (location TBD) to reflect individually and together as a team on what the Lord has been teaching us.
