Last night at youth group we began our teaching series going through the story of the Gospel! For the next four weeks we are learning about the good news of what God has done for us by looking at creation, the fall, salvation, and restoration. This week we studied the creation story. Our outline came from John 1:1-5 where we attempted to answer two big questions:

  • Who is God?
  • What did He create?

We learned that God is eternal, all powerful, triune, loving, and good. We saw that everything in existence was created intentionally by God, and he gave men and women a unique role in creation by being made in his image and likeness. Our two main takeaways from the evening were:

  • Being united in our relationship with God is the only thing that will ever truly satisfy our deepest longings.
  • There are consequences for those who go against God’s original design.

YEAR-LONG YOUTH PERMISSION FORM

Every school year parents need to fill out the YOUTH PERMISSION FORM which will cover students for each youth group activity from September through August. Even if you just filled out the form for your student this past month, you will need to complete it again as it expires at the end of each summer. Please let me know if you have any questions!

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

The youth group FALL SCHEDULE has officially been updated, and you can find the youth calendar in the link provided.

SERVICE SATURDAY is this Saturday from 10am-1pm! We are planning on doing yard work for some older members in our church. We will be meeting at the church at 10am and will return to the church no later than 1pm. I am planning on grabbing pizza for lunch for anyone who joins us. If your child is planning to help serve this weekend, please let me know by responding to this email so that we can figure out how many rides we need to provide!

YOUTH GROUP OFF SITE–On Wednesday, Sept. 27th, we are joining a few other youth groups in the Vancouver area for a night of worship and prayer. It will be at Journey Church in Camas from 6:30-8:30pm. Because we are not having youth group on site that week, we will not have the Study Sesh.

APOLOGETICS CONFERENCE–The Reality Student Apologetics Conference is open to all high school students. You can find out more about the event and register your teens through this link. The student registration deadline is September 26th.

YOUTH GROUP VOLUNTEER NEEDS

If you are a parent who is interested in helping at youth group at least once a semester, there are a couple of ways you can do that this fall.

  • YOUTH GROUP SECURITY–We are in need of some more parents who would be willing to sit in the lobby space between 6:30-8:30pm during youth group to monitor who comes into the building during our activities. No prior experience is required, and if you are interested in helping out, please reach out to me so that I can communicate some more information.
  • TEACHING LESSONS–My hope is to divide middle school and high school students for the lesson time three out of the four weeks during the month. This will allow us to teach our students in ways that will speak more directly to their age group. Many of our amazing youth staff have helped serve by teaching prepared lessons in the past, but in order for us to continue, we will need parent volunteers who will be able to teach on occasional weeks. Even if you think you would only be able to do this once or twice throughout the year, please reach out to me so that I can communicate more information!
